With over 1,200 acres of attractions (including the world famous San Diego Zoo), this is the number one place to spend the day on a visit to San Diego. Museums, theaters and a flora you have to see to believe, Balboa Park is the tops in urban cultural parks. Located in downtown San Diego it is a favorite for visitors and locals alike. Bring walking shoes and plenty of batteries for your camera and don’t plan on leaving under 3 hours as there is simply too much to see.
This Historical Landmark has been around since 1876. Many of the buildings were first built for the 1915 Panama – California Exposition in a Spanish Baroque architecture style.
The park is home to the Old Globe Theater, museums, a botanical garden, and trails of Amazon Jungle style terrain complete with intricate wooden walkways. It has a large water fountain at the east end and the famous El Prado restuarant. Balboa Park is a favorite for photo shoots of weddings, quinceneras and proms.
Museums include a Musuem of Man (now renamed to Museum of Us) a Museum of Art, ComicCon Muesum, Museum of Photographic Art and an Air and Space Museum. Most of the museums line the parks main street, El Prado but some are such, as the Automotive Museum, are located off of side streets.
Balboa Park is very popular with local artist, photographers and street performers.
