Located just 30 minutes from downtown San Diego Del Mar Beach is a beautiful, sandy beach.  Del Mar itself is a beach city off of the famous coastal highway State 101.  Originally a resort city, it is now famous for the Del Mar Racegrounds.  There is plenty of parking both right at the beach itself, and across the roadway (Torrey Pines Road) in a large parking lot.  Del Mar is home to the Del Mar Fairgrounds which is an annual state fair on permanent grounds and plays host to some of the biggest music acts for concerts.  Nearby Del Mar Village is a quiet resort like shopping an dining area.  In the village is the famous seafood restaurant, Jakes Del Mar.

Del Mar Beach offers 2 miles of coastline and is a very relaxing outing for those willing to make the drive up the coast.

At this beach you will enjoy plenty of sunshine (after the marine layer of fog burns off around 9:00 am to 10:30 am), long stretches of sand and lots of water sporting fun.  This beach is some ways away from San Diego so the crowds tends to be more of locals than tourist.

Del Mar Beach is classic California beach lifestyle at its finest.

Sand, sea shells and less crowds (except on holidays) make this a perfect place for families with small children.

Del March beach has high cliffs making this a favorite spot for hang gliders and paragliders.

Locals and tourist enjoy the moderate surf, which is perfect for boogie boarding.

Paddle boarding has become extremely popular at California beaches.  This sport involves standing or stradling a surf board like board and paddling to move accross the water.
