La Jolla Cove is located 15 miles north of downtown San Diego and is considered to be in the top 25 best beaches in the U.S.  Though it doesn’t have much of your typical sandy beach strip or boardwalk, it does have amazing views from the cliff tops and an abundance of wildlife which includes the birthing grounds of Sea Lions and Seals.  La Jolla Coves also has shore caves that visitors can walk through for a fee.

For years the beach at the cove have been the breeding ground for seals but in recent decades there has been a majority of Sea Lions that now migrate here and can be seen almost year round.  Locals have become frustrated with the odors from such a large collection of these sea mammals but the tourist are always amazed at the views.

The cove offers spectacular views year round.  There is a walkway of several miles to take in the views from every angle.

Scuba diving at the foot of the cliffs is a favorite sport here as well as climbing down the cliffs for the more agile.

La Jolla Cove has green shacks atop the cliffs which make a perfect spot for sight seeing.  Many a bride from San Diego has received their proposal while having a romantic date night here.

For those determined to experience a sandy beach day, you can descend the steps to the small beach area. La Jolla Cove Children’s Pool is now off limits but the small strip at the foot of the steps is still accesible.

Kayaking is extremely popular for tourist and locals.  Several rental places offer the kayaks and instructions.  The guided kayak tour will take you from the launching area at nearby La Jolla Shores, pass the Leopard Shark area and through the caves.  Due to the high number of swimmers, kayaks must stay 500 feet from the cove beach areas and are not allowed to launch from the cove.
