The Presidio is the first fort and mission built on the west coast of the United States.  Established in 1769 by Spanish Explorers it is on the original site and is the original building.  Admission payments are required for a tour of the interior of the buildings but it is free to walk the grounds of the park where there are sculptures and artifacts of early Californian life.

The Presidio is the home of the first European settlers of California.  Nearby Old Town is the settlement that was moved to bythe first settlers and is where the actual town of San Diego began.

Here is where the priest would have begun their missionary work on the indigineous people of San Diego, the Kumeyaay people.

Located just a short drive from downtown San Diego, it is a great place to visit and experience California history first hand and just a few hundred yards away, a long time local teenage late night hang out spot is a hill (also callled Presidio) that offers a fantastic view of San Diego.

Pictured here is a sculpture acknoledging the original inhabitants of San Diego, the Kumeyaay people.
